Dr. Stephen Lewellis founded Above & Beyond Dermatology because he believed patients deserved something better: timely access, unhurried conversations, clear guidance, and care designed around the person rather than the healthcare system.

His approach is integrative, evidence-informed, and deeply collaborative. Instead of viewing a skin, hair, or nail concern in isolation, Dr. Lewellis takes time to understand each patient’s full story—including the medical, lifestyle, environmental, and emotional factors that may be affecting their health. He combines advanced conventional dermatology with complementary strategies when appropriate, helping patients understand their options and build realistic plans that reflect their priorities.

Dr. Lewellis has a particular interest in the thoughtful, holistic management of complex and chronic inflammatory skin conditions. He also cares deeply about the experience surrounding the medicine: how quickly patients can obtain help, whether they understand the recommendations they receive, and whether they leave feeling respected, confident, and genuinely supported. For him, excellent care is not simply about choosing the right treatment. It is about earning trust and making the entire journey better.

That same commitment extends beyond the exam room. As the creator and host of the Above & Beyond Dermatology podcast, Dr. Lewellis brings together physicians, innovators, and other thoughtful voices to explore how independent practices can take exceptional care of patients while building healthier, more sustainable models of healthcare. Curiosity, candor, and a willingness to question the status quo are central to both his clinical work and the practice he continues to build alongside Paton and the rest of the team.

Dr. Lewellis earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Haverford College and his MD and PhD at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency at Stanford University.

He has a special interest holistic, integrative management of complex inflammatory skin diseases and is certified by the Integrative Dermatology Certificate Program (IDCP). He’s also a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and is active in the National Eczema Association (NEA) and the Foundation for Research and Education in Dermatology (FRED).

Dr. Lewellis is the creator, producer, and host of the Above & Beyond Dermatology podcast and frequently shares his expertise through interviews and podcast appearances, providing credible insights on the practice and business of integrative dermatology.

Paton plays a central role in shaping the experience at Above & Beyond Dermatology, helping ensure that care feels clear, personal, and seamless from the moment a patient first reaches out.

As the practice has grown, so has Paton’s role. She works across day-to-day operations, patient communication, technology, and process improvement, turning ideas into practical changes that make care more accessible and less complicated. She believes exceptional patient care extends far beyond the exam room—and that every interaction is an opportunity to help someone feel heard, valued, and supported.

Paton especially enjoys solving problems and bringing new ideas to life. Whether she is helping a patient navigate an unexpected issue, improving communication, or developing the practice’s next major project, she brings creativity, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to make things better.

Outside of work, Paton enjoys spending time with her husband, Caleb, and their two daughters. Life with a busy family gives her firsthand insight into how difficult it can be to fit healthcare into the rest of life. That perspective reinforces her belief that care should be approachable, supportive, and centered around the person—not merely the appointment.
